A New Chapter for The Focus Group: Welcome to Our New Home in Hull’s Fruit Market

We’re delighted to share a major milestone in the journey of The Focus Group. After years of planning, design and determination, we’ve moved into our new premises in the heart of Hull’s Fruit Market — a space built with purpose, community and wellbeing at its core.

Designed with Care — for Clients and Staff Alike

“The vision for the building was twofold. We focused both on the patients that access our services and also the employees that work within the space.”

From the outset, our aim was clear: to create an environment where clients feel safe, welcome and supported, and where staff are inspired and empowered in their work. This new space is more than just bricks and mortar — it’s a reflection of who we are.

“We wanted our patients to walk through that door and feel that they were entering a safe space… somewhere that was designed to feel homely, supportive.”

At the same time, we’ve been equally focused on creating a place where our team can thrive. From clinicians to support staff, everyone plays a part in our mission — and they deserve a workplace that nurtures them.

“We wanted our employees… to be inspired by the space, to come in and enjoy working there.”

Thoughtfully Located, Beautifully Built

Set against the tranquil backdrop of the Humber, our new site offers more than just a stunning view. It’s a space that encourages reflection, connection and calm — vital ingredients in the therapeutic process.

“Being based on the Humber, looking out across the water… it’s quite tranquil. It’s an environment where you can feel at ease.”

The building itself carries history and character, having stood since the 1800s. While refurbishing an older property came with its fair share of challenges — including roof removals, structural reinforcements, and a lengthy planning process — we knew it was worth the effort.

“There’s been a lot of hurdles to overcome… it’s not just a fit out, it’s a rebuild of a very old building whilst retaining its aesthetic and history.”

Rebuilding Community After COVID

The new space also marks a return to togetherness. With flexible working areas and shared spaces for staff to connect, we hope to revive the spontaneous, everyday moments that bring colleagues together — the ‘water cooler’ chats we’ve missed since the pandemic.

“I’m looking forward to the staff being able to be a team again… and hopefully this new space will bring that back.”

A Cohesive New Identity

The move has been more than physical. It’s also been a moment to reflect on our identity, values and brand. From colour palettes chosen to promote calm and cohesion, to furniture and furnishings that reflect our therapeutic approach, the building itself now embodies the ethos of The Focus Group.

“We’ve tried to make it cohesive in terms of a brand for the company — not just a workspace.”

We’re excited for what this new space represents: growth, renewal, and a deepened commitment to mental health support in Hull and beyond. To our staff, our clients, and our wider community — thank you for joining us on this journey.

Come visit us in our new home on Nelson Street — we look forward to welcoming you.
